Today kindergarteners celebrated the work of author Eric Carle. Using a variety of materials, such as fly swatters, bubble wands, paint brushes, rollers and scrapers students explored color and texture to create hand made papers that will be used to create collages similar to work of Eric Carle. It was a beautiful day for painting outside. ask your child all about it!
Thank you to the many parent volunteers who made this such a fun day for the children!
We had a great time at the first grade Math & Science Night last night. Children measured how large their bubbles could become (the hit of the night, I think!) and explored science concepts such as pressure, weight and matter. They played a variety of math games practicing concepts such as money, place value and more. There was an estimation game and children guessed the number of marbles in a jar, four students received a prize today for their close guesses. Mithra, Maggie, Calvin and Kayla each won a small bear and a book today. The actual number of marbles was 585.
A very special thank you to first grade teacher Karen Burke for organizing and running this event.
It was wonderful to see so many parents and children join us Thursday evening for Math & Science Night. Enjoy the photos below!
What do you get when you combine 40 children and their parents with hand's-on math and science activities?
Lots of fun - see photos below!
Thursday evening we held our annual Celebration of Community Night. I think it was our best community night ever! It truly was a celebration of the Miller School community through food, music and dance. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
On Monday, April 4th we held Bingo for Books for all kindergarten students. Two sessions were held to ensure that every child could participate. When students yelled "Bingo" they were asked to come to the microphone to read the high frequency words. It is amazing how much they have learned this year. It was allot of fun - ask your child all about it!
This morning I had a great time with Will Acabbo, Anjali Kukkamalla and Shreya Goyal, our Principals for the Morning. They played an April Fool's joke on all the students by saying that they were left in charge and everyone would have recess all day long!
Each time after I spend time with our students like this I am reminded of how polite and kind they are.
It is truly such a pleasure to spend time with them.
