This week Math Interventionists and selected teachers attended a three-day workshop entitled Assessing Math Concepts. This research-based program was developed by "math guru", Kathy Richardson. The philosophy behind Assessing Math Concepts is that children learn math concepts best through hands-on exploration. Assessments are given that provides data as to where children are developmentally. Targeted instruction follows that will bring children to the next skill level. The program provides rich data inform instruction. The teachers are very excited to integrate components of this in math centers across all grades. We are currently using this research-based program to support students who require math intervention. This workshop was organized by K-5 Math Curriculum Coordinator, Mary O’Gormon. If you would like to learn more about this, please check out this website http://www.assessingmathconcepts.com/kathy_richardson.html
The holiday shop was a big hit again this year! Thank you Amy Dyer for coordinating this event, and to the many parent volunteers. Your support is very much appreciated!
This question was asked to children across kindergarten through grade 2 during Miller Cares classes. Their responses are now displayed in the main lobby. Check them out on your next visit.
Today marks Miller School's 13th anniversary! On December 2, 2012 Miller School construction was complete. To commemorate this, Mrs. Morgan is reading the story "Good Night Construction Site" during the children's library visits this week. They are also creating cards to thank Ken Morgan for building us such a beautiful school.
