This week Math Interventionists and selected teachers attended a three-day workshop entitled Assessing Math Concepts. This research-based program was developed by "math guru", Kathy Richardson. The philosophy behind Assessing Math Concepts is that children learn math concepts best through hands-on exploration. Assessments are given that provides data as to where children are developmentally. Targeted instruction follows that will bring children to the next skill level. The program provides rich data inform instruction. The teachers are very excited to integrate components of this in math centers across all grades. We are currently using this research-based program to support students who require math intervention. This workshop was organized by K-5 Math Curriculum Coordinator, Mary O’Gormon.
